VISIT OF MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS DR VIVIAN BALAKRISHNAN TO SARAWAK, MALAYSIA •
2 TO 3 FEBRUARY 2016 •

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will make a working visit to Sarawak, Malaysia from 2 to 3 February 2016.

Minister Balakrishnan will have meetings with Governor of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Minister of Rural Development Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu anak Numpang, as well as other Sarawakian Ministers and personalities.

Chief Minister Adenan Satem and Minister Balakrishnan will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sarawak’s Land Custody Development Authority (LCDA) and the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) on tourism cooperation in Sarawak. The MOU will be signed on 2 February 2016. Under the MOU, LCDA and SCE will explore opportunities for collaboration in the development and promotion of tourism destinations in Sarawak.

Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

SCE – LCDA MOU SIGNING CEREMONY
KUCHING, SARAWAK

Background
In April 2014, Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) hosted a delegation led by the Sarawak Minister of Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg. During the meeting, both sides broadly discussed possible areas of cooperation in tourism development in Sarawak. In 2015, both parties agreed to sign an MOU to strengthen tourism cooperation. The Sarawak Land Custody & Development Authority (LCDA) has been nominated by the Sarawak Government as the signatory for the MOU with SCE to take this cooperation forward.

Sharing Singapore’s Experience in Tourism Promotion
SCE to work with relevant Singapore government agencies and private sector partners to share Singapore’s experience and expertise in tourism promotion with the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism through LCDA. Through this cooperation, SCE aims to partner the Ministry and support their efforts in strengthening the State’s tourism offerings and attractiveness.

Mode of Cooperation
The mode of cooperation is to be discussed and agreed by both parties after the signing of the MOU.
