Advisory Services for the establishment of the Bahrain International Commercial Court
In 2024, Bahrain’s Executive Committee for International Dispute Resolution, in collaboration with Singapore, embarked on a project to establish Bahrain as a regional hub for international commercial dispute resolution. SCE, alongside the Supreme Court of Singapore (SCS) and various Singapore government agencies and private sector entities, provided advisory services to the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR) to support the establishment of the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC), leveraging Singapore’s successful framework.
Over the 15-month period, SCE’s advisory services covered three key areas: crafting the Singapore-Bahrain Bilateral Treaty and legislative framework, developing a long-term strategy for the BICC, and establishing operational capabilities for the BICC Registry, including training Bahrain personnel. The project ensured that Bahrain’s domestic legislation was aligned to support the BICC, laying the groundwork for a robust legal infrastructure to enhance its dispute resolution capacity.
