Prime Minister of Fiji Launches Flagship Digital Transformation Programme in Partnership with Singapore Cooperation Enterprise

The Fijian Government has officially launched its Digital Government Transformation Programme (termed “DigitalFiji”) at Suvavou House today in Suva, Fiji. The programme was launched by the Honourable Voreqe Bainimarama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, alongside with Mr Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive of the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE), and done in the presence of Honourable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Public Enterprises, Civil Service and Communications, and Honourable Rosy Akbar, Minister for Health and Medical Services.

About DigitalFiji
DigitalFiji, born from collaboration between the Fijian Government and SCE, is the newly launched flagship programme in Fiji’s overarching digital transformation. It will include a host of different mobile applications that aim to bring Government services to the fingertips of all Fijians, and in the process, create a more efficient and effective way for the Fijian people to engage with their government.

In March last year, SCE signed an MOU with the Fijian Government to collaborate in the areas of planning and implementing digital government solutions, urban planning and ease of doing business. The planning and implementing of digital government solutions is one of the first initiatives in this “wide-reaching partnership” that SCE is working on with the Fijian Government.

According to Prime Minister Bainimarama,

“DigitalFiji is going to bring the digital revolution to Fiji, our economy, and into the lives of our people like never before, putting essential services provided by my Government at the fingertips of ordinary Fijians. When it came to finding the right partner for this project, the Singaporean Government was the obvious choice, as much of our national ambition and vision echo the incredible progress Singapore has experienced over the last half century.”

For the programme, SCE will be the lead agency that will overall project manage and be responsible for the successful delivery of the e-solutions identified. SCE has brought together a team of experts from Singapore, which include former civil servants with relevant e-Government experiences.

Mr Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive Officer of SCE, said,

“DigitalFiji represents a first key initiative for SCE in the Pacific Islands Region. It attests to the confidence that the Government of Fiji has placed in Singapore for its ability to successfully deliver Digital Government solutions, adapting it for its own use. We are indeed privileged to be selected as a trusted partner for the Government of Fiji, and will do our utmost to facilitate its Digital Transformation Journey.”

It is envisioned that the programme will offer substantial benefits for the Republic of Fiji. As Fiji takes moves forward with its digital transformation, many new, high-skilled and wellpaying careers will be created, opening exciting new opportunities for Fijians who want to be at the cutting-edge of a modern industry like information technology.
