Singapore and Japan collaborate on advancing SMART City developments for countries in ASEAN
The Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (“SCE”) has signed a Memorandum of
Cooperation (“MoC”) with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and
Tourism (“MLIT”) to enhance cooperation in the development and implementation of
digital and smart city projects in third countries, with a focus on the ASEAN region.
The MoC was signed today, by Mr Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive Officer, SCE and
Mr Ogasawara Kenichi, Deputy Minister for International Projects of MLIT, at an event
co-organised by the Japan Association for Smart Cities in ASEAN (“JASCA”) and JTC
Corporation at The Gear: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture & Real
Estate in Singapore.
Through this collaboration, which brings together expertise from Japan and Singapore – both leading players in the field of SMART technology for urbanisation, it seeks to
offer solutions that better meet the evolving needs of SMART City developments in
the region. It will focus on providing the necessary support to build capacity and work
out key success factors for SMART City initiatives in targeted countries, together with
helping in their plans for implementation. By tapping on best practices and solutions
from both Singapore and Japan, the cooperation aims to create SMART, sustainable
urban environments for cities, but done with the mindset of preserving cultural heritage
and the well-being of its citizens as a priority.
Commenting on the collaboration, Mr Kong Wy Mun, SCE’s Chief Executive Officer,
stated,
“SCE is privileged to partner MLIT to advance the development of SMART Cities in the region. This collaboration underscores the pertinent role that both Singapore and Japan can play in promoting digitalisation, economic integration and regional development. Together, we aim to drive sustainable urban solutions and innovation across ASEAN and East Asia.”
