Singapore to Share Singapore’s Public Sector Expertise with the United Republic of Tanzania

Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, United Republic of Tanzania to provide a high-level framework for public and private sector collaboration between Singapore and Tanzania.

The signing of the MOU took place in Dar Es Salaam yesterday and was signed by Mr. Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and Mr. Alphayo J. Kidata, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, United Republic of Tanzania. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Seah Moon Ming, Chairman of SCE and Deputy Chairman of International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, and Mr. Goodluck Joseph Ole-Medeye, Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, United Republic of Tanzania.

Under the MOU, SCE will partner with relevant Singapore public agencies and private sector companies, and work with the implementing agency, National Housing Cooperation (NHC), United Republic of Tanzania in the following areas:

(1) Master Planning of Dar Es Salaam, Arusha and other cities;
(2) Development of a Township and Estate Maintenance Management;
(3) Design and Implementation of a Mass Housing Development Programme;
(4) Implementation of Geographic Information System (GIS) Based Land Management System; and
(5) Facilitate the transfer of Technical Competencies in Planning, Design and Project Management through collaborative projects.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Kong Wy Mun said,

“The Government of Tanzania is keen to develop an integrated master plan together with a sustainable housing programme to support its economic growth and improve the livelihood of its citizens. SCE is privileged to partner with the Government of Tanzania in its development plans and will offer Singapore’s experience and expertise in these areas. We believe that this collaboration will lead to projects that will further strengthen the good bilateral relationship between our countries.”

Mr. Goodluck Joseph Ole-Medeye, Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, United Republic of Tanzania, said,

“This MOU has opened the doors of cooperation between Tanzania and Singapore. It shows the commitment Tanzania and Singapore have in achieving common goals of economic development.”

IE Singapore also inked a MOU with the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), the Tanzania government’s primary agency to promote and facilitate investments into Tanzania. Both parties will collaborate in growth sectors that will attract investments and business partnerships for Singapore and Tanzanian companies, including Agriculture, Port and Logistics, Oil and Gas, ICT, Education and Light Manufacturing.
