Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, en partenariat avec Temasek Foundation International, renforce sa collaboration dans les pratiques de gestion de l’eau avec NITI Aayog, le Gouvernement de l’Inde.
Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and Temasek Foundation International (TF Intl) will once again partner the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), on an in-depth programme encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience in water management. The programme is supported by TF Intl with a grant of SGD 491,430 and co-funded by NITI Aayog at SGD 278,100. A Collaboration Document was signed in New Delhi this morning between Mr Yaduvendra Mathur, Additional Secretary of NITI Aayog and Mr Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive Officer of SCE in the presence of Shri Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, Shri Parameswaran Iyer, Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, His Excellency Lim Thuan Kuan, Singapore’s High Commissioner to the Republic of India and Mr Benedict Cheong, Chief Executive of TF Intl.
SCE and TF Intl first collaborated with NITI Aayog in 2016 on a capability building programme in urban management which focused on the areas of urban planning and governance, water and waste water management, solid waste management and public financing (public-private partnerships). The programme reached out to more than 200 Indian officials and led to the development of four baseline framework
documents which have contributed towards NITI Aayog’s sustainable urban transformation agenda for India.
Given the positive outcomes of the first programme, NITI Aayog was keen to continue the momentum generated and embark on this second programme focusing in the area of water management. Comprising a series of customised workshops, the year-long programme will include discussions on non-revenue water management, used water treatment technology and the design of water recycling facilities.
Mr Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog said,
« India is urbanising at a rapid rate today and it is important to manage urban development in a sustainable manner. This collaboration with Temasek Foundation International and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise offers an excellent opportunity for urban municipal and parastatal bodies to absorb and integrate global best practices and administrative experience as part of local programmes. »
The second programme will reach out to more than 100 policy leaders and specialists across eight states and union territories in India as identified by NITI Aayog. The eight states and union territories are Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, West Bengal, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya and Puducherry.
Speaking on the partnership, Mr Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive Officer of SCE said,
« SCE is privileged to strengthen our partnership with NITI Aayog through renewing its collaboration in water management, where more specifically, we are focusing in the area of treated used water, or what we commonly term as NEWater. NEWater forms part of Singapore’s four national taps strategy to meet the escalating water demands for the nation. We look forward to sharing our experiences here, and to even greater cooperation with NITI Aayog and India, in time to come. »
SCE, being the lead agency, will aggregate relevant resources and experience from Singapore’s public and private sectors to deliver the programme. Partners include PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency and CH2M Hill (Singapore).
Mr Benedict Cheong, Chief Executive of TF Intl said,
« Cities in Asia continue to face a myriad of challenges to ensure their growth remains sustainable. Temasek Foundation International is pleased to partner with NITI Aayog once again. We hope this would provide a platform for officials and specialists from India and Singapore to exchange experience and knowledge in the specific area of water management in urban cities and ultimately contribute to India’s urban development journey. »
The first workshop on water recycling and reuse will begin from 27 to 28 November 2018.
