Singapour va offrir des services conseils à l’Ile Maurice dans le cadre de l’amélioration de la distribution d’eaux pour la zone de fourniture d’eaux de Mare aux Vacoas
Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) announced today that they have commenced a new assignment with the Central Water Authority of Mauritius (CWA), an agency under the Mauritius Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities (MEPU), to offer advisory services from Singapore to improve water supply network management for the Upper Mare aux Vacoas (MAV) water supply zone in Mauritius.
During a visit by the Singapore team of experts to Mauritius in October 2011, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, Hon Dr A.R. Beebeejaun highlighted the issues related to water supply systems in Mauritius, which resulted in water rationing in the MAV area including reduction in water supply hours in few zones. SCE experts determined that some of the key reasons for this situation include:
- Availability of adequate raw water to meet the demand; and
- Leakages in the water supply distribution network due to aging water conveyance infrastructure.
For this assignment, SCE will partner with PUB, Singapore’s national water agency and an engineering firm, CH2MHill Singapore to deliver the assignment. The scope of work includes:
- Reducing non-revenue water;
- Improving water distribution efficiency;
- Capacity building for staff in CWA, by way of secondment of staff into the project; and
- Improving the monitoring of water supply distribution network.
The assignment is to be carried out over a period of 24 months.
This is the second assignment that SCE will be executing with Mauritius in the Water Sector. In March 2013 SCE successfully completed a Study and provided recommendations for the Management of the Water Sector in Mauritius. This included providing the road map for the water sector in Mauritius, with concrete action plans to align the various existing water sector agencies and bodies, tapping on Singapore’s experience and best practices globally.
Mr. Kong Wy Mun, Chief Executive Officer of SCE said,
« The effective management of the water supply network has always been a concern for many countries. SCE is happy to share Singapore’s practices and experience with the Government of Mauritius in this area. Through this project, we believe that the Singapore team can help to contribute towards improving the efficiency of water distribution and management of non-revenue water for the Republic of Mauritius. »
