Exporting Singapore’s Expertise to Uzbekistan
Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) signs Agreements with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and National Bank during the Uzbekistan-Singapore Business Forum (25 January 2007).
1. At the Uzbekistan-Singapore Business Forum 2007 today, the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade (MFER), and a Cooperation Agreement with the National Bank of Uzbekistan. Both deals were signed for collaboration that may lead to the procurement of Singapore’s public sector expertise by the Uzbekistan bodies.
2. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr James Koh Cher Siang, SCE Board Member, and Mr Elyor Ganiev, Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade. With the signing, the Uzbekistan MFER would be working closely with SCE to explore how they could collaborate on areas such as information exchange for economic policies and regulations, the planning of Special Economic Zones, as well as training in finance and banking for Uzbek specialists.
3. The Cooperation Agreement meanwhile was signed by Mr James Koh Cher Siang, SCE Board Member, and Mr Sayidakhmat B. Rakhimov, Chairman of the National Bank of Uzbekistan. It provided a framework for collaborative projects in areas such as training and consultancy.
4. The officials from the Uzbekistan MFER and the National Bank of Uzbekistan were part of the delegation, led by His Excellency Islam Karimov, President of Uzbekistan, in Singapore from 24 to 26 January 2007. Held at the Shangri-La Hotel, the Uzbekistan-Singapore Business Forum 2007 was organised by the Singapore Business Federation in conjunction with the delegation’s visit to Singapore.
